I have been playing tin whistle and Irish flute for 15 years. Though he is largely self-taught, he has taken lessons with Kevin Crawford, Ivan Goff, and Conal O’Grada. I am hugely influenced by the rhythmic style associated with players such as Kevin Henry, Peter Horan, Harry Bradley, and Larry Nugent to name a few.
In lessons, I like to:
- Listen to reference recordings, particularly historical and current “pure drop” players
- Develop strong embouchure and tone, and explore variation and ornamentation
- Connect players with the local scene, including the monthly session I run at Chatham’s People’s Pub
